Assistant Manager

Job Summary:

The suitable candidate will be able to perform the following duties:

  • Supervise and Facilitate Daily Operations: Provide assistance to upper management in supervising and facilitating the daily operations of the store.
  • Oversee Store Manager Responsibilities: Oversee the responsibilities of the Store Manager in their absence.
  • Personnel Management: Assist in the delivery of key personnel management, such as interviews, promotions, performance reviews and disciplinary actions.
  • Provide Direction and Guidance: Provide direction, guidance and instruction to all store associates as required.
  • Ensure Store Conditions: Ensure store conditions are consistently upheld to established standards.
  • Staffing Schedules: Assist in creating weekly staffing schedules; ensuring staffing levels adequately meet business needs.
  • Liaise with Departments: Liaise constantly with the various departments of the store to ensure information is conveyed properly and expectations are communicated.
  • Customer Service: Greet and assist customers in a way that models exemplary conduct to other staff.
  • Company Policies and Legislation: Ensure company policies and relevant legislation are consistently adhered to and upheld by all staff members.
  • Customer Complaints: Handle customer complaints as they arise, escalating to the appropriate individual as deemed necessary.
  • Health, Safety and Security: Ensure that all health, safety and security regulations are adhered to and required standards are met.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee and assist in inventory management.
Requirements:
  • Education: Completion of high school and College/CEGEP/vocational or technical training required.
  • Service Orientation: Demonstrated service orientation required.
  • Work Experience: Minimum of (5) years work experience in the groceries industry required.
  • Supervisory Experience: Minimum (2) years work experience in a supervisory role in a retail / supermarket environment required.
  • Time Management and Prioritizing: Excellent time management and prioritizing skills required.
  • Training and Motivation: Demonstrated ability to train and motivate staff required.
  • Staff Performance Monitoring: Skills to monitor and assess staff performance required.
  • Office Administration: Basic office administration skills required.
  • Microsoft Office: High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite.
  • Teamwork: Highly effective teamwork skills.
  • Communication: Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Customer Service and Troubleshooting: Strong customer service and troubleshooting skills.
  • Diplomacy: Well-defined sense of diplomacy.
  • Health and Safety Legislation: Thorough understanding of applicable health and safety legislation.
  • Work Attitude: Professional, responsive, and positive work attitude is essential.
  • Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Criminal Record Check and Driver's Abstract: MUST provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Driver's Abstract.
  • Driver's License: MUST have a valid Driver License.
