Leading Powerline Technicians Wanted

We are seeking 4 permanent Leading Powerline Technicians to join our Regional Operations team in various locations throughout Nova Scotia.

As a Leading Powerline Technician, you will be responsible for performing all aspects of line maintenance and construction, customer service work, and trouble response while ensuring compliance with safe work methods and practices.

  • Lead and direct line crews and perform necessary administrative duties as required.
  • Meet customer needs by working safely and effectively, representing NSPI, and promoting electrical safety.
  • Assist and support the supervisor with leading and directing a highly skilled work team on a daily basis.
  • Promote safety, environmental awareness, teamwork, and work efficiency.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and support all aspects of the work planning process.
  • Travel throughout the province and participate in competency-based training and regulatory training.
  • Be responsible for personal safety, that of co-workers, and those under your direction by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
  • Be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.

This position is considered a safety-sensitive position, and the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy.

Your primary residence must be located within 30 minutes of headquarters, and you will be available for after-hour emergency service restoration, rotational standby duty, and one-person work.

Requirements
  • Possess an Inter-provincial Red Seal Powerline Technician Certificate and have a minimum of five (5) years' experience as a journeyperson PLT.
  • Hold a valid Class 3 Nova Scotia Driver's License with a minimum of 2 years driving experience and provide a driver's abstract satisfactory to NSPI.
  • Have proven problem resolution skills and the flexibility and ability to adapt to rescheduled assignments.
  • Be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills, a strong technical aptitude, and the ability to deal with multiple tasks and demands.
  • Proven leadership skills, self-motivation, and demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential.
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
  • Must be able to lift 55 lbs. from the floor to an overhead height on an occasional basis.
  • Occasionally carry items with one or two hands that weigh between 33-55 lbs.
  • Possess the grip strength to pinch and perform power grasp tasks.
  • Perform static reaching frequently from waist level to overhead.
  • Perform bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, kneeling, and forward flexion on a minimal basis.
