ROLE

Dentons Canada LLP is currently recruiting for a Network & Telephony Engineer who will be responsible for assisting in the design, implementation, and maintenance of the organization's network and telephony infrastructure. This role involves collaborating with senior engineers to ensure the stability, security, and optimal performance of the network and telecommunication systems. The ideal candidate should have a strong foundation in networking and telephony technologies, and firewalls with a keen problem-solving mindset, and a willingness to learn and grow within the role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
Network Infrastructure:

  • Assist in the design, configuration, and deployment of network infrastructure components, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless devices.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues to ensure the availability and reliability of the network.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement and support network security measures

Telephony Systems:

  • Planning, designing, developing, documenting, implementing, and supporting existing and new voice-related technologies and infrastructure, preferably experience with Cisco Call Manager, Microsoft Teams, or similar.
  • Administering and overseeing the operation, support, and maintenance of voice systems, preferably experience with Cisco Call Manager, Microsoft Teams, or similar.
  • Monitoring and analyzing statistics of voice systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to voice communication, ensuring high-quality voice services.
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to optimize telephony performance and features.
  • Managing Gateways voice gateways and telecommunication vendors.

Network Security:

  • Assist in implementing and maintaining security measures to protect the network infrastructure from cyber threats.
  • Monitor network traffic for anomalies and participate in the response to security incidents.
  • Stay informed about emerging security threats and industry best practice

Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of network and telephony configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Provide training and documentation to end-users for network and telephony-related activities.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Collaborate with other IT teams, including systems administrators and application teams, to ensure seamless integration of network and telephony services.
  • Communicate effectively with end-users to gather requirements and provide support for network and telephony-related issues.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with impeccable attention to detail.
  • Expert level knowledge and experience with several key technologies like Routing, Switching, SD-WAN, wireless, and firewalls.
  • Experienced in working with leading vendors like Cisco, Meraki, Silver Peak and Palo Alto.
  • Extensive knowledge of hardware lifecycle management including refreshes and secure recycles.
  • Basic knowledge in Cisco Unified Call-Manager, Cisco Unity and relevant gateways and protocols such as H.323, MGCP, SCCP, SIP.
  • Exceptional trouble-shooting, investigation and problem solving skills, with the ability to quickly and effectively identify and mitigate problems.
  • Highest level of judgment, discretion and integrity dealing with confidential and/or sensitive matters.
  • Demonstrates how to Act as One by being a team player across the Firm Experience working with external vendors and service providers.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to create VISIO documentation for clearly documenting implementations, changes and new installations.
  • Able to work flexible hours.
  • Potential requirement for travel within Canada to participate in projects as needed.
  • Demonstrated commitment to privacy and ethical conduct.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education with a specialization in Information Technology and / or minimum of 8 years of Information Technology experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing Network and Telephony infrastructure.
  • Relevant certifications for networking and telephony such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) are a plus.
