Job Title: Principal Sr Network ConsultantJob ID: BL Location: Edmonton, ABContract duration: 3-6 monthsOverview:Our client is seeking a Principal Sr Network Consultant. The consultant maintains the company's Enterprise IT and Customer Hosting network communications systems, including Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN), in support of computer, video, and voice communications contributing to corporate strategy, planning, implementation, maintenance, monitoring and lifecycle management of deployed enterprise network solutions. Support for all wide-area and site-specific network solutions, troubling shooting issues and problem resolution up through and including long-term change recommendations to ensure continuous improvements in operational performance. Provides global coordination with site IT staff to ensure solutions are consistent and conform to corporate standards while meeting the local needs. This role contributes to strategy, provides direction and performs hands-on implementation of computer networks, internet, telecom and video networks including change management, asset management, infrastructure/solution/system monitoring and management of failover and disaster recovery.What you will be doing:
  • Perform installation, administration and support of network systems and services (routing, switching, load balancing, firewalls, and intrusion detection) in a heterogeneous environment, including a highly available Internet service delivery across multiple data centers and sites.
  • Maintain technical expertise in all areas of network infrastructure hardware and software including routers, switches, load balancers, firewalls, gateways, wireless, telephony, telepresence, video, mobile computing, manufacturing site IT network devices and related equipment.
  • Work closely with the Network Manager for equipment replacements and upgrades, and works with colleagues at other company sites to ensure consistency and interoperability of systems.
  • Address problems and issues that have impacts on online services for business units.
  • Develop and manage appropriate infrastructure network documentation, including operational and maintenance instructions either directly or through service providers.
  • Define, document and maintain operational standards and procedures related to the network infrastructure.
  • Manage day-to-day network operations, and enhancements providing 24/7/365 support with a focus on creating an extraordinary end-user experience.
  • Support global change control with 100% coverage of all devices and configurations managed by Enterprise IT.
  • Verify correct configuration and installation of systems and components to meet security requirements as defined by the IT security officer and industry best practices.
What you must have:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • 7 years minimum of strong, current experience in complex global network environments, including hands-on experience with complex IP routed networks, switching and routing, load balancers, firewalls, LAN/WAN networking hardware and protocols.
  • 4 years minimum in network and infrastructure engineering and design
  • 4 years minimum hands-on current experience with Cisco routing and switching
  • 4 years minimum hands-on current experience with Cisco FPR/ASA security appliances
  • 2 years minimum hands-on current experience with Citrix Netscaler/ADC load balancers
  • Experience working with specifically Cisco Nexus, Cisco Catalyst, Cisco FirePOWER
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: communication, active listening, customer care
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to changes quickly
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-moving environment
  • Willingness to provide after-hours support and maintenance as required
