Conduct clinical research fieldwork, data handling, and laboratory tasks, developing a specialization in one area, and working with a team to ensure data quality and integrity.

Job Description

As a Research Assistant (VEC) at the Vaccine Evaluation Centre, you will be responsible for conducting a wide range of tasks related to clinical research fieldwork, data handling, and laboratory work. You will work closely with the Field Coordinator, Data Coordinator, Statistician, and Lab Manager to ensure the success of various studies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides quality control monitoring for data collection, ensuring accuracy, completeness, legibility, and verifiability of source information.
  • Tests new data entry databases for ease of use and documents the structure of the already developed database.
  • Writes user manuals for data entry staff and prepares the database for statistical team use.
  • Reviews patient charts, determines eligibility for participation, and obtains detailed medical histories.
  • Completes informed consent with study participants and creates reports for retrieval of pertinent information.
  • Develops custom-designed study participant tracking databases and assists with database setup.
Requirements
  • Completion of a relevant technical program or a university degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum three years of related experience.
  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives and a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Graduate of a recognized college or university in the health care field, experience in vaccine clinical trials, and database management.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, and ability to deal effectively with a diversity of people.
  • Proven ability in accepting responsibility and a sound understanding of vaccines and their appropriate use.
