Job Summary: Planning Services Professional The City of Windsor is seeking a highly skilled Planning Services Professional to join its team, responsible for researching and analyzing growth and development issues in the community.

Job Description:

Reporting to the Manager of Growth/Deputy City Planner, this position will be responsible for:

  • Researching and analyzing growth and development issues in the community
  • Recommending land use policy to promote efficient and effective land use patterns and complete neighbourhoods
  • Researching and preparing reports with recommendations as part of planning studies
  • Facilitating public consultation, liaising with stakeholders and undertaking community outreach
  • Researching and preparing reports related to Official Plan amendments, Community Improvement Plans, heritage planning and special studies
  • Conducting statistical analysis and preparing projections on demographics and land use requirements
  • Assisting with the coordination of databases regarding land use patterns, population and economic resources
  • Conducting studies on physical, social and environmental conditions, including walkable, strong neighbourhoods and active transportation
  • Conducting studies and developing policies related to local economic development
  • Reviewing and providing recommendations on policy initiatives proposed by senior levels of government
  • Providing expert evidence at hearings and providing advice to internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Planning or related field, or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency, and a minimum of four (4) years experience in planning or related field
  • Full Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP) or ability to attain within three (3) years of accepting the position
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations, with a valid Driver's Licence and driver's abstract as a condition of employment
  • Knowledge of the Planning Act and Ontario Heritage Act, related legislation and provincial policies
  • Excellent verbal, written and visual communication skills, and proficiency in Microsoft suite of products and graphic software
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, with ability to solve problems and meet deadlines under pressure
