Financial Analyst sought to provide financial expertise and support to the Seniors Services and Long-Term Care Division, ensuring accurate budgeting, financial reporting, and data analysis.
- The Financial Services unit is comprised of three teams: Budget and Analysis Review, Revenue and Trust, and Decision Support.
- The Financial Analyst will work closely with these teams to ensure accurate financial reporting, budgeting, and data analysis.
- Prepare operating and capital budget submissions and financial status reports.
- Create spreadsheets and provide additional documentation to support budget submissions.
- Track capital budget project progress, expenditures, commitments, completion status, and yearend projections.
- Develop and prepare monthly budget variance and forecast reports.
- Develop and prepare financial statements to advise management on the financial status of various operating budget items.
- Review Divisional financial statements for accuracy and completeness.
- Review and analyze various expenses and revenue.
- Research and collect data for reporting the effectiveness and efficiency of Divisional/Unit programs.
- Conduct cost-benefit studies and financial research on divisional operations.
- Liaise with staff of Accounting Services, Payroll, and Financial Planning.
- Review and update current Divisional procedures as required.
- Attend meetings to provide and clarify information and resolve issues.
- Degree in accounting, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with budget preparation, including complex financial statements, using budget planning and data visualization tools.
- Experience with cost-sharing programs, account reconciliation, variance analysis, and reporting on financial and performance metrics.
- Experience with computer-based accounting, financial, and purchasing systems, along with the use of database management tools.
- A high level of skill in extracting large amounts of data from corporate systems and organizing, analyzing, and transforming the data into information for management decision-making.
- Sound knowledge of financial and accounting principles and practices, maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers, deployment of control accounts, age analysis of receivables, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing, with all levels of staff and with external clients.
- Ability to work in teams and maintain cooperative relationships.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
- Ability to work in a customer service environment, addressing service inquiries, requests, and concerns of clients, the general public, and/or staff.
- Ability to support the Toronto Public Service values to ensure a culture that champions equity, diversity, and respectful workplaces.
