Job Summary: The City of Burnaby seeks a Facilities Management Coordinator to coordinate design and construction of minor capital projects and maintenance programs for municipal facilities.

This is technical and administrative work in coordinating design and construction of minor capital projects and maintenance programs for municipal facilities. An incumbent of this class coordinates construction and development projects and preventative maintenance programs; prepares Terms of Reference and Requests for Proposal; prepares and makes recommendations for the maintenance and minor capital construction programs and budgets; estimates material and labour costs; liaises, collaborates and consults with clients, outside contractors and public works crews, and consultants and contractors; inspects, for contract compliance, needed repairs and implements emergency repairs; obtains necessary approvals and permits; works with prime contractor to enforce safety and WorkSafe BC issues; coordinates feedback and provides direction to consultants for project plan amendments within policy, established procedures and defined parameters; attends interdepartmental meetings; provides technical assistance and advice as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate design and construction of minor capital projects and maintenance programs for municipal facilities
  • Prepare Terms of Reference and Requests for Proposal
  • Estimate material and labour costs
  • Liaise with clients, outside contractors and public works crews, and consultants and contractors
  • Inspect and implement emergency repairs
  • Obtain necessary approvals and permits
  • Work with prime contractor to enforce safety and WorkSafe BC issues
  • Coordinate feedback and provide direction to consultants

Qualifications:

  • Diploma program in building technology
  • Sound related experience in the construction or maintenance field
  • Thorough knowledge of maintenance methods, procedures, materials and equipment for buildings and support systems
  • Considerable knowledge of bylaws, codes and regulations related to safety practices, buildings and associated support systems
  • Ability to review and analyze construction documents, drawings and interpret plans, specifications, contracts and other information related to the work
  • Ability to monitor project budgets, to review project progress, and to recommend approval of change orders and contract payments
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts

This is a Temporary Full Time opportunity until December 31, 2025.
