The Manager, Credit Risk Small Business is responsible for exercising sound credit judgment and providing quality underwriting decisions. This role requires adherence to Bank policy and established exception authorities, while balancing production objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze credit submissions, financial disclosures, and pertinent documentation within risk tolerances
- Apply advanced credit judgment, using the applicable five C's of credit, and ensure consistent application of policies and processes
- Adjudicate within established limits and exception authority, presenting quality recommendations on requests above established limits
- Calculate financial ratios, identify appropriate credit conditions and security, and understand business and economic trends
- Analyze credit reviews and apply corrective action where appropriate
- Ensure all partner interactions are professional, respectful, and value-added
- Provide recommendations and alternative solutions, and restructure credit requests as required
- Contribute to the growth and quality of the Small Business Credit portfolio
- Clearly identify risks and exceptions using strong rationale and associated mitigants to support the decision
- Operate within the Bank's risk appetite and culture in day-to-day activities and decisions
Requirements:
- Comprehensive knowledge of Scotiabank's Small Business products and services
- Expert understanding of Scotiabank's lending policies and procedures, financial analysis, risk assessment techniques, credit structuring, collateral, and security documentation
- Intermediate accounting and financial statement analysis
- Strong analytical and problem-resolution skills
- Strong team player with harmonious relationships with Unit team members and stakeholders
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal, to produce informative, concise, and professional credit replies, presentations, and correspondence
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work effectively and efficiently
