Cook Job Description

Job Summary

The Cook is a key position within our communities, responsible for preparing delicious meals and snacks that bring warmth and joy to our residents.

Responsibilities
  • Set up equipment and supplies for food preparation, ensuring a smooth and efficient kitchen operation.
  • Prepare meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes, and menu documents, maintaining the highest standards of quality and presentation.
  • Provide for prescribed diets, ensuring that all meals are prepared at the correct temperatures and in portion-controlled quantities.
  • Monitor the quality of food supplies received and advise the team leader of any issues, making recommendations for corrective action.
  • In the absence of the team leader, assume responsibility for departmental operations, including menu changes, requisitions, and purchases from authorized suppliers.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new team members, promoting a culture of excellence and teamwork.
  • Attend in-service meetings, staying up-to-date on the latest best practices and industry developments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating a positive attitude and a commitment to meeting the goals and standards of the residence.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 minimum education required.
  • Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program and willingness to obtain Red Seal certification.
  • One year experience in volume food preparation, catering, and special events preparation.
  • A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and Smart Serve certificate.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence.
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check (applicable to Ontario applicants) and Criminal Records Check (applicable to British Columbia applicants).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in large quantity food preparation and cooking in Health, Long Term Care, or Retirement Residence.
  • Red Seal Designation.
