The Credit team, part of Emera's Enterprise Risk Management group, is responsible for assessing, monitoring, and mitigating the credit risks of Emera and its various diverse operating companies, including those risks associated with energy trading and fuel procurement.

We are currently looking for a Credit Analyst to join our dynamic, innovative and high performing team. As the ideal candidate you are a strong problem solver, service oriented and possess strong analytical skills along with superior communication skills both written and verbal.

As Credit Analyst you will:

  • Perform financial and credit analysis on counterparties to assist the company in managing and reducing its credit risk on multiple portfolios;
  • Perform industry and company research, financial ratios analysis and applying advanced credit applications, you will analyze credit information to determine the risks involved in establishing open credit lines to counterparties;
  • Assist in the analysis of long-term commodity transactions as well as the preparation of any related reports;
  • Daily monitoring of counterparties' credit exposures to ensure they comply with company policies;
  • Prepare presentations and reports for senior management will be required;
  • Providing general overall support to the Enterprise Risk Management team;
  • Maintaining databases and trading platforms such as Emera's Energy Trading & Risk Management System, Horizon;
  • Providing Horizon operational and/or Super User support as part of the Enterprise Risk Management team;
  • Providing assistance to others in the company by providing guidance, training and solutions to credit related matters;
  • Support the development and training of a rotating co-op student.

What skills will make you successful?

You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and where possible possess the skills and experience listed below:

  • Hold a university undergraduate (or higher) degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or other related or similar fields. Recent graduates meeting the requirements set out below are welcome to apply;
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel is a requirement of the position, while experience with modeling understanding of financial ratios and metrics. Visual Basic, SQL, and BI Reporting development experience and skills would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with or an understanding of the electric utility industry, energy trading, legal contracts and/or risk management will also be considered an asset;
  • Strong analytical, attention to detail and organizational skills are required;
  • Demonstrate strong relationship building and communication skills as well as excellent multi-tasking abilities;
  • Enthusiasm to gain a strong understanding of risk management, financial statement analysis, credit rating agencies' methodologies and the Utility and Oil, Gas and Energy industries;
