Physician with Background in Substance Use Treatment

Join our team at the Department of Psychiatry, BC Children's Hospital, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC Canada.

The Department of Psychiatry is seeking a physician with expertise in working with youth and families struggling with substance use to join our expanding substance use service at British Columbia Children's Hospital (BCCH). The Substance Use Response and Facilitation (SURF) Team provides sub-specialty care to children and youth who use drugs and alcohol.

  • Assess and treat substance use disorders, with or without mental health disorders
  • Manage intoxication and withdrawal
  • Provide support to medical, emergency, ambulatory and community teams
  • Contribute to evidence-based care in a trauma-informed approach

As a consulting physician, you will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. You will have the opportunity to participate in the development of the outpatient SURF clinic and provide indirect patient care through telephone or virtual support of professional caregivers in the community.

We are looking for a physician with a demonstrated commitment to clinical and academic excellence. You will have a strong background in substance use treatment and experience working with youth and families. You will be able to work successfully in a multidisciplinary team environment and provide patient and family centered care.

  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience working with substance using youth
  • Ability to work in a trauma-informed approach
