Property Valuation and Negotiation Specialist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Property Valuation and Negotiation Specialist to join our team at the City of Burnaby. As a key member of our real estate team, you will be responsible for conducting complex property appraisals, negotiations, and sales of municipal land.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field investigations and appraise real property for acquisition, expropriation, sale, exchange, lease, and rental purposes.
  • Assist and liaise with municipal and external authorities relative to coordination of land development projects.
  • Estimate land values for sale of subdivision properties as a member of the Subdivision Committee.
  • Negotiate with property owners and/or their representatives for the acquisition of real property, including easements, covenants, and rights of way.
  • Meet with prospective purchasers or lessees in connection with the sale or lease of municipal property.
  • Conduct sales of municipal land for commercial, industrial, multi-family, or residential use by public tender.
  • Recommend minimum bid prices, prepare bid packages, land sale advertisements, statements, and other materials required for the conclusion of sales.
  • Accept bids, coordinate bid opening procedures, and recommend acceptance or rejection of bids received.
  • Attend Committees of Council and ad hoc Council meetings as required.
  • Estimate costs of removal of structures on land required for municipal purposes.
  • Inspect and approve easement restorations.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of grade 12 and completion of a recognized real estate appraisal course.
  • Considerable related experience in real property appraisal and negotiation work or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Requirements:

  • Certification as an Accredited Appraiser - Canadian Institute or R.I. (B.C.) Appraisal Option.
  • A valid Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
