Job Title: Child Youth Care Worker B

Job Summary:

The Child Youth Care Worker B is a key member of the multidisciplinary treatment team at the Hope Valley Youth Treatment Centre. This role requires a strong understanding of child and youth care principles and practices, as well as experience working with youth with complex mental health and addiction issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the development and implementation of therapeutic programs and environments
  • Utilize daily life events to facilitate change through the development of therapeutic relationships with young people
  • Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team in the development and monitoring of individual treatment plans
  • Implement the adopted clinical model and monitor fidelity to the model
  • Assist in maintaining the health of youth by monitoring their physical condition and dispensing medication as required

Requirements:

  • Graduation from high school with a diploma recognized by the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Education and Early Childhood Development
  • Two-year diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care, or a Bachelor's Degree in the Social Sciences
  • A minimum of two years' experience working with youth with substance use and/or complex mental health issues
  • Current First Aid/CPR
  • Training in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for children and youth in care
  • Training in suicide intervention
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills, team building and collaboration skills, as well as networking and time management skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of intervention techniques, including emerging evidence-based clinical practice
  • Satisfactory Child, Youth and Family Services records check
  • A valid driver's license
  • Consistent demonstration of the core values of NL Health Services: Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (I CARE)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree in child and youth care
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computers, relevant computer software, and accessing internet resources

Working Conditions:

This is a temporary full-time position, approximately 12 months in duration. Shift work may be required.
