We are seeking a highly organized and strategic thinker to fill the position of Senior Accountant at Fort McKay First Nation. If you are a self-starter who is flexible and works well in a fast-paced team environment, then this position may be a good fit for you.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in monthly closings and preparation of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Contribute to the annual and monthly financial planning and reporting process, working closely with the Finance Director and department leaders to achieve budget goals.
- Reconcile vendor accounts, resolving any discrepancies or issues in a timely manner.
- Perform monthly bank statement reconciliations, identifying and resolving any outstanding issues.
- Monitor and resolve bank issues, including fee anomalies.
- Prepare tax computations and returns, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and submit payroll remittances for processing, ensuring timely payment to employees.
- Prepare journal entries for monthly and year-end closings, ensuring accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare monthly reports for department managers and external stakeholders, providing insights into financial performance.
- Review invoice batches on a weekly basis, ensuring all invoices are posted in a timely manner.
- Ensure all invoices are correctly coded and costed according to budgets, maintaining financial accuracy.
- Mentor more junior accountants, providing work direction and technical accounting guidance.
- Assist with the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts as required for the annual external audits.
- Reconcile credit card accounts, ensuring accurate financial reporting.
- Ensure daily processes for Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable are completed in a timely manner and in accordance with accounting principles.
- Perform other duties as required, contributing to the overall success of the Finance team.
- Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance.
- Accounting designation (CA, CGA, or CMA) is required.
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience in cost accounting in a computerized accounting environment.
- Knowledge and experience with accounting software, such as ACCPAC.
- Strong knowledge of standards and best practices pertaining to accounting.
- Proficient in various computer software applications, including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Outlook) and finance modules.
- Experience working in an Indigenous community, including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions, and values, is considered an asset.
- Ability to speak Cree or Dene is considered an asset.
- Valid class 5 Driver's License and Clean Driver's Abstract are required.
