About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to join our team at Fort McKay First Nation. As a Senior Accountant, you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records, as well as providing financial planning and reporting support to our leadership team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and monthly closings.
  • Support the annual and monthly financial planning and reporting process, working closely with the Finance Director and department leaders.
  • Reconcile vendor accounts, ensuring all invoices are posted and outstanding issues are resolved.
  • Responsible for monthly bank statement reconciliations and ensuring outstanding issues are resolved.
  • Monitor and resolve bank issues, including fee anomalies.
  • Prepare tax computations and returns.
  • Prepare and submit payroll remittances for processing.
  • Prepare journal entries for monthly and year-end closings.
  • Prepare monthly reports for department managers and external stakeholders.
  • Review invoice batches on a weekly basis and ensure all invoices are posted in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all invoices are correctly coded and costed according to budgets.
  • Mentor more junior accountants, providing work direction and technical accounting guidance.
  • Assist with the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts as required for the annual external audits.
  • Reconcile credit card accounts.
  • Ensure daily processes for Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable are completed in a timely manner and in accordance with accounting principles.
Key Requirements
  • Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance.
  • Accounting designation (CA, CGA, or CMA) is required.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in cost accounting in a computerized accounting environment.
  • Knowledge and experience with accounting software such as ACCPAC.
  • Strong knowledge of standards and best practices pertaining to accounting.
  • Proficient in various computer software applications, including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Outlook) and finance modules.
  • Experience working in an Indigenous community, including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions, and values, is considered an asset.
  • Ability to speak Cree or Dene is considered an asset.
  • Valid class 5 Driver's License and Clean Driver's Abstract Required.
