Licensed Practical Nurse I

Summary: Licensed Practical Nurse I position available at Dr. Y.K. Jeon Kittiwake Health Centre, providing nursing care and treatment services for physically ill, disabled, and cognitively impaired clients.
Job Description: Work involves providing nursing care and treatment services for physically ill, disabled, and cognitively impaired clients under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide nursing care and treatment services for physically ill, disabled, and cognitively impaired clients.
- Work under the direction of a Registered Nurse for patients where the acuity or complexity of care requires an advanced level of knowledge and skill beyond the scope of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams to provide comprehensive care to clients.
- Administer medications, including IM, IV, and subcutaneous injections.
- Manage wounds and provide wound care services.
Requirements:
- Graduation from a practical nursing program approved by Central Health.
- Current BLS certification.
- Current registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated competency in working to the full scope of practice (as per the CLPNNL and Central Health's policies and procedures) and standards of care relevant to designated client population.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in licensed practical nursing.
Working Conditions:
- Constantly moves/lifts up to 10-15lbs, regularly moves/lifts up to 50lbs.
- Constantly stands/walks, may work in awkward or cramped positions to assist with care.
- Potential for exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and/or other contagion.
- May be exposed to patients/residents with potential risk for aggressive behavior.
