About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Library Assistant to join our team at the City of Vancouver. As a key member of our Information Services team, you will provide exceptional service to the public, meeting established library strategic objectives and service standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide service to the public, responding to inquiries and resolving issues in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the library collection, including cataloging and processing new materials.
  • Support the development and implementation of library programs and services, including programming for children and adults.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve team goals and objectives.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with best practices and technologies.

Requirements

  • Completion of an approved Library Technician Diploma program supplemented by courses in the use of computers.
  • Some related experience in the provision of library services, including programming, information services, and collection maintenance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and carry out assigned duties and responsibilities with supervision.
  • Ability to learn new technologies, applications, and software, as well as processes and skills.

Working Conditions

This is a temporary full-time position, with the possibility of extension. The successful candidate will be required to work at any location within the VPL system. A Police Information Check clearance is a condition of employment.
