Job Summary

Fraser Health Authority is seeking a skilled Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join our team in the Emergency Department. As a Psychiatric Liaison Nurse, you will play a critical role in providing person-centered care to patients with mental health and substance use issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments and develop individualized care plans for patients with mental health and substance use needs.
  • Collaborate with the interprofessional care team to provide crisis intervention, counseling, and education to patients and their families.
  • Work closely with Emergency Department staff to ensure timely and effective patient flow, including admission and transfer to inpatient units.
  • Provide patient advocacy services and facilitate transition to aftercare by following transition of care processes.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and research to identify patient care issues and collect data.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing plus current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • One (1) year recent related experience in an acute or community Mental Health & Substance Use setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with patients, families/care givers, the public, medical staff and members of the interprofessional care team.
  • Ability to promote person-centered care that demonstrates empathy for patients/families/care givers, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, including advocacy for special populations.
