Mental Health & Addictions Counsellor

About the Role
  • Provide specialized mental health and addiction services to individuals, families, and groups, including screening, assessment, counselling, education, referral, and advocacy.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team setting to develop and deliver health promotion and other educational sessions in the community.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Nursing, or Masters of Psychology.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in assessment and counseling preferred.
  • Experience in mental health and/or addictions, including individual, youth, family and group counselling.
  • Experience in crisis intervention and the ability to respond to the emergent needs of clients.
  • Knowledge and experience in the areas of health promotion/prevention and the development and delivery of education and training programs.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, facilitation, written and oral communication skills.
  • Eligibility for registration with appropriate regulatory association.
  • Valid driver's license.
Duties
  • Provide intake/screening, assessment, treatment and therapeutic intervention planning.
  • Coordinate referrals based on assessed client need.
  • Conduct comprehensive interviews with individual and families to assess the nature and extent of problem areas.
  • Provide direct in-depth counselling to clients and families, based on assessed needs and goals.
  • Locate, arrange and coordinate services and resources, in consultation with other service providers, based on assessed client needs.
  • Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary team in the development, implementation and evaluation of services.
  • Develop and deliver education, prevention and awareness initiatives.
  • Utilize the principles and practices of Continuous Quality Improvement in service and program delivery.
  • Adhere to Practice Standards and Code of Ethics, including all relevant Legislation, and departmental and organizational policies.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including clinical documentation.
  • Maintain workload statistics, and other departmental and organizational reports.
  • Support other members of the interdisciplinary team, which may include providing coverage and/or travelling to various parts of the Region to assist with service delivery.
Compensation
  • CG - 39 of the NAPE-HP salary scales $41.63 per hour.
Hours of Work

Hours of work will follow the flexible work schedule in accordance with article 19.01(a) of the NAPE-HP Collective Agreement based on 75 hours bi-weekly (by mutual agreement).
