The Hunter Hub in the Office of VP Research is currently seeking a Research Assistant for approximately 3 months.

Overview

Dr. Alice de Koning (Academic Director of the Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking) has decades of experience in entrepreneurship pedagogy, with a focus on experiential learning within the classroom and place-based learning in communities. As the University of Calgary implements the Ahead of Tomorrow strategy, faculties and instructors will appreciate educational resources and support to implement relevant and engaging Entrepreneurial Thinking content in their courses. The goal is to adapt entrepreneurial thinking concepts and skills to complement the important learning objectives of different disciplines. The role will report to Dr. Alice de Koning as part of the Hunter Hub team, and will coordinate with Taylor Institute when and where appropriate.

Position Description

We are looking for an analytically-minded and detail-oriented UCalgary undergraduate or graduate (masters or doctoral) student who is able to support the university's academic strategy for entrepreneurial thinking from the perspective of student experiences, curriculum, and research. This research assistantship is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate and develop skills in supporting instructors and faculty in curriculum design; to edit and adapt existing course materials into lesson plans and modules; and to assist with learner-centered instructional design. The successful applicant should expect about 6-14 hours of work per week from April to June, with the possibility of extension.

Depending on qualifications, the Research Assistant (RA) may also develop or adapt new lesson plans, assessments, rubrics, and other materials for different (trans-)disciplinary contexts, based on the needs of UCalgary faculty. The RA/GAR will provide support to the Academic Director and instructors to relate the available toolkits of entrepreneurial thinking and entrepreneurship pedagogy to various disciplines. These efforts may lead to publication opportunities. The RA/GAR may also co-author scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) research papers. In addition, the RA/GAR may be involved in helping to organize and promote workshops to instructors interested in entrepreneurial thinking pedagogy, coordinate a community of practice, support instructors, update the (as yes non-existent) website, and manage the mailing list.

Job Description:

  • An interest in curriculum design, entrepreneurial pedagogy, community-engaged pedagogy, place-based, experiential, or service learning.
  • Ability to develop lesson plans, assessments, rubrics, and other curriculum materials.
  • The ability to provide project leadership where appropriate.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and oral), and organizational skills.
  • An interest in professional and academic writing for the purpose of presentation and publication.
  • Experience with research software is an asset.
