The Department of Medical Genetics in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Determines priorities with input from the Principal Investigator
  • Project management: ensuring that project timelines and milestones are met
  • Team coordination: facilitating communication and collaboration among team members, scheduling and organizing team meetings, booking venues, distributing agendas, and managing budgets
  • Engaging with training: Effectively communicate with students and relevant stakeholders to promote training opportunities offered by the project
  • Documentation and reporting: Initiate and facilitate project documentation, such as research protocols, consent forms, progress reports, and other administrative records
  • Facilitate the preparation and submit grant proposals and progress reports
  • Resource management: Manage lab resources, including equipment, reagents, animal records and funding. Monitor budget expenditures and ensure that spending aligns with project goals and objectives. Facilitate finance reporting
  • Data collection and analysis: Assist with data collection activities. Collaborate with researchers to analyze data and prepare reports for publication or presentation

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • MSc in Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology or related fields will be preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered, and PhD is considered an asset
  • Minimum 2 years of related research experience
  • Experience in molecular biology and biochemical techniques (e.g. molecular cloning, Western blotting, qRT-PCR, immunoprecipitation) is preferred
  • Experience in bioinformatics tools and databases is considered an asset
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent communication, written, and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate with various levels of management and university groups, as well as external parties to the university
  • Must possess excellent demonstrable writing skills
  • Must be flexible with the ability to prioritize and refocus to meet deadlines
  • Project Management experience is desirable
