Laboratory Technician

AGAT Laboratories is a full-service laboratory with locations across Canada, offering a range of analytical services to various sectors.
We are seeking a skilled Laboratory Technician with experience in Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) to work out of our Dartmouth facility.
This is a permanent position that requires a strong understanding of organic chemistry principles and proficiency in laboratory techniques and instrumentation.
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting our research and development activities, preparing and processing samples for GC-MS analysis, and operating and maintaining GC-MS instruments.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing and processing samples for GC-MS analysis
- Operating and maintaining GC-MS instruments to analyze organic compounds
- Providing general lab support, including washing glassware, cleaning work stations, and waste disposal
- Calibrating, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting intermediate instruments
- Compiling, verifying, and validating accurate data records
- Meeting quality assurance and turn-around specifications
- Following all Quality Control and Standard Operating Procedures
- Interpreting and reporting analytical data
- Ensuring compliance with laboratory safety protocols and quality control standards
- Performing other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience with GC-MS
- Strong understanding of organic chemistry principles
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques and instrumentation
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Assisting in the development and optimization of analytical methods
- Maintaining accurate laboratory records and documentation
- Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in method development and validation
- Familiarity with other analytical techniques such as HPLC or NMR
- Knowledge of laboratory information management systems (LIMS)

This position requires a person to stand, sit, and lift throughout the shift in a laboratory environment. Manual dexterity is required to perform repetitive tasks. PPE is required where applicable.
