Auxiliary Parks Labourers Job Description

The City of Port Moody is seeking enthusiastic and hard-working individuals to provide labour assistance to the Parks & Environment department.

This is a routine manual work position that entails considerable physical effort and agility in the safe performance of various unskilled and semi-skilled jobs, including:

  • Turf and field maintenance
  • Irrigation system maintenance
  • Parks maintenance
  • Landscape maintenance
  • Playground and spray park maintenance
  • Invasive plant removal
  • Cleaning of public areas and facilities

The Labourer will drive and operate various equipment, including grass cutters, weed whackers, and litter collection vehicles, while performing tasks such as:

  • Grass cutting and trimming
  • Weeding and litter collection
  • Emergency maintenance and repairs

This position requires the ability to operate a variety of small equipment safely and efficiently, as well as the physical strength, stamina, and coordination to perform heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Grade 12 education
  • Minimum of six months of job-related experience
  • Experience using various types of machinery on construction and landscape sites
  • Experience in the maintenance of parks, sports fields, irrigation systems, and playgrounds
  • Experience with traffic control, snow removal, flood control, and other emergency response
  • Experience with landscaping, horticultural tasks
  • Experience with restoration projects in natural areas
  • Experience with identifying and removing invasive plants
  • Self-motivated with excellent interpersonal skills
