Senior Buyer Job Description

Seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to lead procurement efforts, drive cost savings, and build strategic relationships with suppliers in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Job Summary

The Senior Buyer will be responsible for the tactical procurement of commodities, supplies, equipment, and services, while maintaining optimal inventory levels and fostering strong relationships with key suppliers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and manage purchase orders for raw materials, consumables, subcontractors, and services.
  • Ensure timely delivery of orders to meet production requirements.
  • Source, evaluate, quote, select, and negotiate pricing for materials, supplies, and services.
  • Analyze and implement inventory management systems to optimize levels and reduce costs.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
  • Manage vendor relationships and performance.
  • Collaborate with Scheduling and Production to ensure smooth job completion and delivery.
  • Develop and implement contingency plans for shortages or delayed deliveries.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with purchasing policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
  • Stay up-to-date with internal and external factors impacting procurement.
  • Research and analyze market trends to inform procurement decisions.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess:

  • Post-secondary education in material management or business.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience as a buyer, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with procurement software and systems.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong customer service focus.
Working Conditions
  • Salary: $65,000 to $80,000 annually.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Ability to work on-site at the plant as needed.
  • Overtime as required.
