We are looking for an Electrician to support our Real Property Planning and Management (RPPM) Branch. The Electrician would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
Under the general supervision of the Site Operations Supervisor, the Electrician is responsible for maintaining, installing, inspecting, troubleshooting, calibrating and repairing a wide range of Electrical systems and equipment, including specialized laboratory equipment and hydraulic/pneumatic systems. You will be required to install and maintain all equipment to CEC standards and be responsive to research needs and equipment failures. You will work as part of a team to support other trades on site but would routinely perform work independently and maintain a high level of accuracy and safety, while performing your duties.
The Electrician will also be required to operate all shop equipment and tools necessary for the repair and installation of all Electrical systems and their components, as well as facility projects. He or she will work closely with each Research group to support maintenance/repairs and set-up of equipment to ensure operational efficiency.

Screening CriteriaApplicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
EducationSecondary School Diploma according to provincial standards.
A valid Nova Scotia certificate of qualifications as a Construction and Maintenance Electrician (309A) or an equivalent inter-provincial Journeymen's Certificate of Qualification.

Experience- Experience as a journeyman electrician working in industrial facilities.
- Significant and recent experience in preventive/corrective maintenance, dismantling of equipment and troubleshooting of HVAC equipment and generators.
- Basic and recent experience in monitoring and maintaining a building automation and Fire Alarm system.
- Basic and recent experience with card access and DDC control components.
Reliability Status
Must be willing available to participate work in an on call rotation.
When on call, must be able to commute to the NRC work location identified within 60 minutes of received notice.
Must be able to possess and retain the physical capabilities to perform the position which include but may not be limited to: crouching, bending, twisting, walking, climbing stairs & ladders, ability to hear to diagnose mechanical troubles, and the ability to handle heavy and bulky objects.

Technical Competencies- Solid knowledge of working in an environment utilizing a building management DDC system and preventative maintenance system.
- Solid ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, manuals and manufacturers specifications.
- Solid ability to install, maintain and troubleshoot electrical/electronic equipment which includes: high and medium voltage distribution systems, motor control, variable speed drives, fire alarms and DDC control systems.
- Solid knowledge of the National Building Code, the Canada Labor Code Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, Safe Work Practices, WHMIS and regulations governing the handling of hazardous materials.
- General knowledge in the use of computers and Microsoft Office software, and the ability to use computers for searches and data entry.
