Marine Electrical Systems Technical Specialist and Life Cycle Materiel Manager

Position Summary:

This position, based in Ottawa and/or Halifax, seeks a Marine Electrical Systems Technical Specialist and Life Cycle Materiel Manager to oversee engineering support for various Electrical Systems on AOPS and JSS class ships, including Power Generation, Distribution, and Controls Systems.

Reporting to the AJISS Engineering Services Manager and collaborating with the AJISS Electrical Services Engineer and the rest of the AJISS Engineering and Supportability Team, this role involves maintaining the configuration and design of electrical systems on ships and managing changes effectively.

The ideal candidate will use their expertise in marine electrical systems to become a subject matter expert and primary contact for all technical matters concerning the assigned systems.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
  • Provide technical support for equipment deficiencies, develop solutions, and conduct risk assessments.
  • Offer technical advice for the correct operation and maintenance of electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Investigate issues related to marine electrical and electronic systems, perform failure analysis, and recommend solutions.
  • Develop and review technical documentation, including specifications, installation instructions, and engineering change records.
  • Analyze requirements for changes to the ship's configuration, equipment, and software.
  • Coordinate with OEMs, Service Providers, and ship staff to resolve defects.
  • Prepare work packages and cost estimates for customer approval.
  • Support the design and configuration control of electrical and electronic systems.
  • Manage software changes and requirements documentation development.

Minimum Requirements:

- Industrial Electrician Canadian Red Seal or Military QL5 certification in an approved Electrical Trade.

- At least 5 years of technical work experience in the marine/offshore sector within the last decade.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with electrical safety standards.

- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Language: English (Essential).

Preferred Qualifications:

- Minimum 10 years of experience as a Technical Specialist in marine power generation and distribution systems.

- Previous exposure to the Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard.

- Past role as a Life Cycle Materiel Manager in the marine electrical field.

- Demonstrated project management expertise.

- Experience in supporting marine operational assets.

- Knowledge of certification requirements such as Classification Society, SOLAS/IMO, IEEE, CSA, Naval Ship Code, and DND regulations is beneficial.

Physical Demands:

This role primarily entails office work with occasional travel to dockyards and onboard Naval ships. Inspections on Naval ships may involve bending, twisting, and working at heights.

Regulatory Compliance Requirements:

This role entails access to controlled hardware, software, or technical data under various regulations, necessitating a positive Controlled Goods assessment and a NATO Secret Level Security Clearance.
