Your role
CBC Nunavut, is seeking a highly skilled Video Producer to join its Iqaluit newsroom. You are a creative thinker who brings original ideas and innovative treatments to all platforms that will appeal to new, younger and diverse audiences. You are a self-described news junkie who is immersed in current events. You have demonstrated skills in producing, shooting and editing content at a high level, often independently and without supervision.
You will conceive, research, develop, produce and deliver story items, and perform the associated camera and editing functions. You bring a distinctive life experience, perspective or expertise to the team that will enrich content for CBC Igalaaq and have a deep understanding and appreciation of the different perspectives, opinions and experiences that make up contemporary life in the North.

This role requires full time on site presence.
Key Tasks:
- Conceives and develops visual story content including pitching, researching, writing, shooting, generating and/or editing of written and visual material.
- Determines the visual style, pace, tempo and format of the story item relative to each platform it will be published on including video, soundscapes, photo galleries and other content items.
- Leads and drives production methods incorporating the latest changes to visual storytelling trends, practices, tools and techniques, to continually improve CBC's content and best practices.
- Performs location surveys and identifies special requirements such as audio, lighting, camera angles and equipment, including production limitations.
- Executes road show set ups independently utilizing LIVE resources like Dejero, field prompters and coordinates with control room while supporting the host.
- Prepares, aligns, sets up and operates DSLR/EFP/ENG/iPhone camera units and ancillary equipment, ensuring optimal visual, audio and technical quality under prevailing conditions for multiple platforms and deadlines.
- Innovates and performs highly creative content gathering techniques for complex covert situations.
- Provides technical guidance, expertise and support within the unit, focused on content production techniques and workflows.
- Deep knowledge of the Inuit community and other diverse communities in the North.
- Ability to work in Inuktitut and English is preferred and a definite asset.
- Graduation from University or Community College in a relevant course of study or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum 5 years of directly related experience.
- Proven record of highly creative, innovative visual storytelling
- Experience in foreign hostile environments.
- Possesses a deep understanding and appreciation of diversity of perspective, opinion and experience.
- Possesses a superior level of technical knowledge and understanding of road shows, visual gathering, visual production and post-production methods with a focus on storytelling.
- Must have a strong sense of creativity, initiative and a high degree of responsibility for the accuracy and quality of work throughout the complete production cycle.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and client service skills are required.
- Ability to work independently in a deadline-driven environment while maintaining a professional attitude.
- Must demonstrate leadership skills and ability to pursue the acquisition of story elements with a minimum of supervision.
- Must possess a valid driver's licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company, other classes considered an asset.
- Ability and willingness to work overtime and various shift patterns, including overnights and weekends, as required.
