The CBC Talk Radio digital team is seeking a producer who has a deep understanding of how to make content for digital platforms to support Network Talk radio shows. This job will have a large focus on video creation for and third-party platforms including YouTube and TikTok.

You're an experienced producer who can turn amazing audio stories into compelling visual content that reflects, and adds value to, CBC Radio programs, documentaries and podcasts. These include, but are not limited to White Coat Black Art/The Dose, The Sunday Magazine, Cost of Living and Unreserved , as assigned by the senior producer.

You must have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate and inspire others to make great content. You have an open mindset, a great work ethic and an understanding of story angles of interest to our target audiences on social media. There is a regular and ongoing requirement to co-ordinate the work of others.

You have uncompromising attention to detail and best practices in accordance with the CBC's Journalistic Standards and Practices. You must be proficient in leveraging visual storytelling tools and techniques, and adapting to evolving technologies. You are on top of social media and video distribution trends and know how to present our content in an authentic way to new audiences on those platforms.

You care about the people you work with and have a deep appreciation for different perspectives, opinions and experiences. You live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.

This is a permanent, full-time position, based in Toronto. This position is telework eligible.

Job Responsibilities
  • Produce creative social treatments for both third-party and CBC's own platforms.
  • Participate in show and digital pitch meetings to assess possible treatments for radio show and podcast content.
  • Collaborate with digital and radio producers on digital content.
  • Script social video and story packages.
  • Vet scripts written by others, and work with others vetting your scripts.
  • Shoot, host or produce mobile video including field shoots, and recording guests and hosts in studio and remote guests.
  • Edit video including original, CBC, stock, archival and submitted footage.
  • Package and upload social stories including images, video, text, metadata and captions to a variety of platforms.
  • Coach other producers, journalists and guests for on-camera performance.
  • Pitch radio social content to lineups and verticals.
  • Document best practices and communicate them back to the radio digital team as well as show producers.
  • Work closely with other CBC teams.
  • With the Executive Producer, communicate strategy, content and success criteria for short vertical video, audiograms, swipeable short stories, explainers and original video series. Contribute to their evolution.
Skills and experience
  • Five years of digital news experience.
  • Superior writing, vetting and digital storytelling, and video creation skills.
  • A university degree or equivalent.
  • Strong organizational skill with the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, coach and mentor others.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing work patterns, processes and methods.
  • Comfort with photo and video editing software including Adobe Premiere and Photoshop, Media Central, Canva.
  • Experience managing remote recordings including Zoom and Riverside.
  • Familiarity with online photo and video suppliers, submitted photos, illustrations, maps and graphics.
  • Understanding of CBC's Journalistic Standards and Practices, style guide and best practices is an asset.
  • Constantly informed on developments in social platforms, trending topics and content types.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines with grace.
  • Independent and self-motivated, with stellar communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to plan ahead, while maintaining the ability to be topical and current.
  • Knowledge of national affairs.
  • Understanding of the CBC and familiarity with its national radio programs and podcasts, regions and verticals.
  • Experience chasing and interviewing additional sources.
  • Understanding of copyright and legal issues with online content.
  • Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) including 9CMS, Polopoly, TikTok, YouTube, X and other social media.
  • Knowledge of analytics platforms such as Adobe Analytics, MiR, and on social platforms including YouTube.
