About the Role:
The Analyst/Data Scientist will be responsible for Data Management and Control within the Track Geometry Group. This role provides direct assistance to the Manager Track Evaluation and Specialist Track Evaluation/Data Methods with supporting Digital Track Notebook (DTN), AMA, producing/publishing Rail Profile Reports and Image Data Analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop new business rules based on image data analysis, key findings, and root causes
- Develop and produce machine vision algorithms to identify safety defects on railway structure
- Support case developments for new technology purchases and/or process integrations based on data analysis results to improve railway safety and efficiency
- Propose new processes and technologies to improve investigation data retrieval and processing capabilities
- Define requirements and work with IT staff to incorporate all technological changes
- Control and filter access to Track Systems Data requests
- Pull data queries including derailment information
- Perform periodic quality inspection reviews of the TEC output to ensure the quality and reliability of the data
- Develop/Publish Rail Profile Plots / Reports for Capital Planning
- Provide vacation relief within Track Geometry group
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering/computer science from an accredited university OR 5 years of railway experience in Engineering Services
- Experience implementing data mining and machine learning concepts OR evidence of project work in school in artificial intelligence fields
- Experience with AWS and/or other cloud providers
- Experience with applying machine learning modelling to image data
- Experience in Data analysis and the ability to draw conclusions and communicate results, Prior exposure to Geometry Brush Charts (WinDBC, ARIES, GEOEdit, RailEdit)
- Exceptional communication skills for multiple audiences with diverse levels of experience
- May require compiling data records/request outside of normal business hours
- Must possess a valid Class 5 driver's permit
- Valid passport, ability to travel to US/CAN without restrictions
