Resident Advisor

Resident Advisor role involves fostering a community environment that supports students' personal and academic success, while enforcing Residence Community Living Standards.

The Resident Advisor is a student leader responsible for creating a safe, respectful environment through social and educational programs. They will live in an assigned residence room and work closely with the Residence Life Department to achieve this goal.

The Resident Advisor will be responsible for:

  • Facilitating social and educational programs to address community needs
  • Creating a safe and respectful environment through the enforcement of Residence Community Living Standards
  • Providing support and resources to students living in residence
  • Working with the Residence Life Coordinator to assess community needs and develop programming
  • Planning, implementing, and evaluating social and educational programs
  • Maintaining and updating bulletin boards and advising staff and students about planned activities
  • Encouraging residents to become involved in floor, residence, and campus activities
  • Holding floor meetings to discuss community concerns and planned activities
  • Completing administrative tasks, including incident reports and programming logs
  • Responding to questions and concerns raised by the community in a timely and responsible manner
  • Assisting with the resolution of conflicts in the community
  • Assisting residents with personal, social, and academic concerns and referring them to appropriate resources
  • Responding to and providing assistance during residence emergencies or student crises
  • Maintaining the highest level of confidentiality in regards to resident issues
  • Working in cooperation with other staff, including the Residence Life Manager and General Manager
  • Serving as a liaison between the Residence Staff, Residence Council, and the college/university
  • Reporting incidents to a member of the Residence Management Team in a timely manner
  • Working in a manner that complies with OHSA regulations and Campus Living Centres
  • Completing online training modules and in-person training before starting regular duties

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Superior verbal communication skills
  • Above average customer service skills
  • Superior attitude towards learning
  • The ability to handle multiple projects at once
  • A passion for leadership and a positive attitude
  • Demonstrated positive contribution to the residence community

Previous leadership experience is an asset, but not required. The candidate must be currently enrolled as a full-time student at the institution and maintain a minimum GPA of 65% throughout the duration of their employment.
