Director Gift & Estate Planning Major Gifts Planning

St. Michael's Hospital Foundation is the exclusive fundraising organization for St. Michael's Hospital and Providence Healthcare, generating and managing philanthropic funds to fuel healthcare, research, teaching, and health equity missions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the Gift and Estate Planning function and program, achieving budget targets and yearly fundraising goals for outright cash gifts and bequest intentions/expectancies.
  • Oversee a portfolio of estates under administration, ensuring timely distribution of funds and planning cultivation and solicitation activities to identify new bequest/expectancy intentions.
  • Work with the major and principal gifts team, volunteer professional advisors, and hospital leadership to monitor, educate, and implement gift planning strategies and techniques.
  • Develop and execute new planned giving intention solicitation strategies, doubling the value and number of planned giving expectancies confirmed annually.
  • Manage current realizations, ensuring appropriate follow-up and stewardship activities, and supervise staff members responsible for estate administration.
  • Prepare and oversee an annual financial budget plan, including projected cash revenues and expenses, and manage the Gift and Estate Planning team.
Requirements
  • University degree or equivalent experience in fundraising, with at least 10 years of experience in planned giving.
  • Working knowledge of tax and other legislation relating to gift planning, proficiency in gift planning and gift planning vehicles.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with experience working with lawyers, estate trustees, and professional advisors.
  • Ability to work with senior leaders, physicians, and other foundations, and experience working with volunteers and volunteer committees/boards.
  • Basic understanding of healthcare delivery system in Ontario, and ability to attain financial and program goals within prescribed timelines.
