Permit Coordinator

The Permit Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of oversized and specialized loads for our company. This position requires a unique blend of research, communication, and time management skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Research and coordinate transportation permits to meet load requirements.
  • Oversee new shipment orders to determine permit needs.
  • Review commodity drawings and measurements for permit purposes.
  • Complete routing for orders requiring permits.
  • Submit permit forms and approvals to relevant authorities.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial, state, and federal regulations.
  • Maintain communication with dispatch regarding load delays and permit progress.
  • Communicate with drivers regarding permits and load requirements.
  • Assist the sales department with quoting permit rates and pilot driver costs.
  • Arrange pilot drivers and route surveys as needed.
  • Manage complex spreadsheets for tracking permit costs.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in the transportation industry, with a focus on over-dimensional freight is an asset.
  • Related post-secondary training is considered an asset.
  • Attention to detail and strong accuracy are required.
  • Ability to multi-task and learn new procedures and systems.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to handle changing priorities.
  • Ability to read and comprehend detailed forms and regulations.
  • Technical ability to learn and use transportation software.
  • Ability to use discretion and judgment in interpreting rules and guidelines.
  • Availability for on-call shifts on a rotation basis.
