About the Role

As a key member of the CPKC team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our railway operations. We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join our Track Geometry Group, where you will be responsible for managing and analyzing large datasets to identify safety defects and improve our rail profile reports.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement new business rules based on image data analysis and key findings to improve railway safety and efficiency.
  • Design and produce machine vision algorithms to identify safety defects on railway structures.
  • Support the development of new technologies and processes to improve investigation data retrieval and processing capabilities.
  • Define requirements and work with IT staff to incorporate technological changes.
  • Control and filter access to Track Systems Data requests.
  • Pull data queries, including derailment information.
  • Perform periodic quality inspection reviews of the TEC output to ensure data quality and reliability.
  • Develop and publish Rail Profile Plots/Reports for Capital Planning.
  • Provide vacation relief within the Track Geometry group.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering/computer science from an accredited university or 5 years of railway experience in Engineering Services.
  • Experience implementing data mining and machine learning concepts or evidence of project work in artificial intelligence fields.
  • Experience with AWS and/or other cloud providers.
  • Experience with applying machine learning modeling to image data.
  • Experience in data analysis and the ability to draw conclusions and communicate results.
  • Exceptional communication skills for multiple audiences with diverse levels of experience.
  • May require compiling data records/request outside of normal business hours.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 driver's permit.
  • Valid passport, ability to travel to US/CAN without restrictions.
