Nursing Unit Clerk

We are seeking a Unit Clerk to work on a casual (on-call) basis in various patient care areas in Acute Care and Residential & Community settings.
The Unit Clerk will perform a variety of clerical duties, including acting as a communication link to the unit, transcribing and processing physician's orders, coordinating patient appointments, and assembling/maintaining patient charts.
**Key Responsibilities:**
• Prioritize, process, and coordinate physician's orders by copying information, completing required forms, and distributing information
• Act as a communication link for the assigned area by contacting other facilities and departments to exchange information regarding bed availability
• Schedule and coordinate patient appointments by receiving appointment requests, making follow-up appointments, and adjusting appointments as required
• Assemble and maintain patient charts and/or records according to established procedures
• Perform clerical duties such as data entry, filing, compiling, and preparing statistics
• Maintain unit stationary and supply levels by monitoring stock and preparing orders
• Perform reception duties such as answering the telephone, taking messages, and opening and distributing mail
**Qualifications:**
• Grade 12, medical terminology, and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk program
• One year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Ability to deal with others effectively
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
• Ability to keyboard at 40 wpm
• Ability to organize work
• Ability to operate related equipment
• Ability to utilize a variety of computer software applications
