About the Role

The Track Supervisor - Canada is a critical position responsible for overseeing the operations of an assigned territory, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of rail traffic. This role requires a strong understanding of railway operations, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.

Main Responsibilities
  • Manage engineering operations as outlined in CN's operating plan, ensuring compliance with safety procedures and regulatory guidelines.
  • Supervise a team of Assistant Track Supervisors responsible for rail inspection and maintenance.
  • Oversee track gangs, track inspectors, and hyrail operations, ensuring timely completion of tasks and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Manage budgets and workforce productivity, aligning with CN's policies and the Five Guiding Principles.
  • Communicate track condition and daily production information to senior management, facilitating informed decision-making.
  • Participate in derailment investigations and disruptions in service, collaborating with Transportation and Mechanical teams to determine cause and implement preventive measures.
Working Conditions

This role involves working in an office environment as well as outdoors in various weather conditions, with irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The position may require relocation and extensive travel (50%+), with occasional unexpected and emergency situations. The incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and manage stress.

RequirementsExperience
  • Safety compliance experience, with a strong understanding of regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and problem-solving, with a focus on railway operations.
  • Relevant work experience in similar working conditions or in a regulatory or safety environment.
  • Budget management experience, with a focus on workforce productivity.
  • Labor Relations experience, including interpretation of collective agreements, response to grievances, and negotiations with union representatives.
Education/Certification/Designation
  • High School Diploma.
  • Post-Secondary Diploma (asset).
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Courses and training required for inspection and railroad operations.
