About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Genetic Counselling Assistant to join our team at BC Cancer. As a key member of our Hereditary Cancer Program, you will play a vital role in supporting our clinicians and patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform baseline review and triage of patient referrals, determining eligibility and prioritizing cases according to established guidelines.
  • Obtain and document patient information, including medical history, family history, and associated medical documentation.
  • Prepare and maintain patient charts and testing materials, including paperwork and kits.
  • Draft consultation and results letters using established guidelines and approved templates.
  • Enter patient information into our computerized information system and prepare patient documentation for filing.
  • Communicate with patients and healthcare providers, answering general questions and triaging inquiries to our clinicians.
  • Refer patients to other services or specialists as directed by our clinicians.
Requirements
  • Diploma in a related health science or social science discipline, plus two years of recent related experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively and organize work.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada.
