Nutrition and Food Services, Utility Worker

Nova Scotia Health is a leading provider of health services in Nova Scotia, with a mission to achieve excellence in health, healing, and learning. We're seeking a skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Nutrition and Food Services, Utility Worker.

This is a permanent, full-time position with a competitive hourly rate of $20.02. The successful candidate will work in a patient and retail food service setting, reporting to the Manager/Food Service Supervisor.

About the Role

  • Prepare and serve meals and supplies to patients, residents, staff, families, and customers
  • Clean and sanitize patient trays, related equipment, and workplaces
  • Support safe food handling procedures and provide overall service excellence
  • Perform a variety of key work activities, including patient meal selections, product/food preparation/assembly and service, delivery and collection, food handling, and menu duties

About You

  • Grade 12/GED or equivalent (or demonstrated skills and/or relevant work experience)
  • Demonstrated competency in English and basic Math
  • Restaurant experience and customer service skills considered an asset
  • Ability to work as part of a team to provide services and achieve departmental and/or organizational goals
  • Ability to perform duties within expected timeframes and standards of accuracy
  • Ability to communicate effectively while demonstrating civility and respect

Working Conditions

  • Frequent physical demands include extensive standing and walking, bending, lifting (maximum of 35-40lbs), pulling and pushing, and transferring/transporting equipment
  • Special footwear may be required for some food service areas
  • Heavy lifting and physically demanding, repetitive tasks
