We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Utility Worker - Food Service to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a key member of our Nutrition and Food Services department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest quality food service experience for our patients, residents, and staff.
Key Responsibilities:- Patient Meal Selections: Assist patients in selecting their meals, answer phone calls, and enter meal selections on a computer or electronic tablet.
- Product/Food Preparation/Assembly and Service: Prepare and assemble patient meals, nourishments, and special feedings, as well as deliver and distribute selective menus and patient meals.
- Delivery and Collection: Collect soiled patient trays and deliver nourishments, supplies, and food items to patients and staff.
- Food Handling: Participate in receiving and storing supplies, interpreting patient diet/meal orders, and maintaining inventory management.
- Menu Duties: Generate and print menus, reports, tallies, and labels, and compare Meditech/STAR reports to CBORD/Vision reports.
- Food Safety and Sanitation: Clean and sanitize dishes, utensils, equipment, and work areas, and maintain basic work area safety and sanitation.
- Education: Grade 12/GED or equivalent, or demonstrated skills and/or relevant work experience.
- Skills: Restaurant experience, customer service skills, ability to work as part of a team, and ability to communicate effectively.
- Physical Demands: Extensive standing and walking, bending, lifting (maximum of 35-40lbs), pulling, and pushing, and transferring/transporting equipment.
- Pot Room Requirements: Special footwear may be required for some food service areas, heavy lifting, physically demanding tasks, and working independently.
We offer a competitive hourly rate of $20.02 and a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
