Job DescriptionThe Advanced Optical Microscopy Facility (AOMF) at University Health Network is a leading research institution that provides researchers with the latest in optical micro-imaging technology. As a Microscopy Research Associate, you will be responsible for developing an expert knowledge of the AOMF microscopes and the overall operation of the facility.
Key Responsibilities- Consult with users to plan microscopy experiments and provide expert advice on sample preparation and imaging techniques.
- Train users to operate the AOMF microscopes and troubleshoot instrumentation issues.
- Manage the AOMF's cell culture infrastructure and prepare fixed cells and tissues for optical microscopy.
- Assist users in deriving meaningful data from their images using the AOMF's image processing and analysis software.
- Communicate with vendors to schedule maintenance sessions and upgrades.
- Provide tours of the AOMF to trainees and researchers.
- Meet with researchers to discuss their imaging needs and potential grant applications.
- Continually enhance microscopy expertise by reading microscopy papers and attending conferences and webinars.
- Master's degree in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or a related field and 2 years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience.
- At least 2 years of experience performing advanced optical microscopy techniques.
- Research experience in cell culture and sample preparation.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Highly proficient with computers and able to learn new software.
- Strong proficiency with MS Office software.
