The Pharmacy Technician will report to the Pharmacy Manager and work under the general supervision of a Pharmacist or other Pharmacy Technician. Key responsibilities include:
- Procuring, storing, preparing, compounding, packaging, maintaining, issuing, and distributing drugs, chemicals, and supplies in accordance with policy and procedures.
- Reviewing prescriptions for compliance with federal and provincial law.
- Performing a final check on prepared drugs before dispensing.
- Dispensing drugs upon approval by a pharmacist.
- Identifying drug-related problems requiring referral to a pharmacist.
- Providing instructions to patients on the operation of medical devices.
- Refilling active prescriptions without change, upon instruction from a practitioner.
- Performing tasks at external dispensing sites.
- Precepting and training Pharmacy Technicians-in-training, Pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintaining current competencies and continuing education requirements.
Preferred qualifications include:
- One year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital setting.
Education and certification requirements include:
- Successful completion of a CCAPP Accredited Pharmacy Technician Certificate or the program prescribed by the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba.
- Listing as a Pharmacy Technician with the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba.
Key qualifications and skills include:
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Fluency in the English language.
- Demonstrated competency in pharmaceutical calculations.
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Flexibility and independence in planning work.
- Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships.
Physical requirements include:
- Standing, lifting, and repetitive motion.
- Extensive use of eyesight and concentration for precision work.
- Extensive use of computers.
- Exposure to medications, chemicals, and solvents.
- May be required to travel to other sites.
This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement. A current satisfactory Criminal Records Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check are required as conditions of employment.
