At WRHA Corporate, we are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Clinical Pharmacy Specialist to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care services.
About the JobWe are offering a competitive salary of $62,000 - $82,000 per year, depending on experience.
Job Description- This role will involve procuring, storing, preparing, compounding, packaging, maintaining, issuing, and distributing drugs, chemicals, and supplies in accordance with policy, directives, and procedures of the Regional Pharmacy Program.
- The incumbent will review information in prescriptions for compliance with federal and provincial law.
- Upon approval by the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba and as approved by a pharmacist manager, the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will perform a final check when the process of preparing the drug for dispensing was performed by another technician, pharmacy assistant, student, or intern.
- The successful candidate will dispense drugs if a pharmacist has approved filling the prescription.
- They will identify drug-related problems that require referral to a pharmacist.
- The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will provide instructions to patients about the operation of defined medical devices.
- In an outpatient pharmacy, they will ask practitioners and receive their instructions for refilling active prescriptions without change to the prescription.
- The incumbent will perform necessary tasks at external dispensing sites.
- They will precept and train Pharmacy Technicians-in-training, Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technician students, Pharmacy Assistants, and pharmacy interns who are performing the above tasks.
- The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will maintain current competencies that underlie the main duties of a Pharmacy Technician.
- They will provide annually to their supervisor, a record of continuing education requirements to maintain their eligibility to be a Pharmacy Technician under the legislation of the Pharmaceutical Act and Regulations.
- A minimum of one year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital setting is preferred.
- The successful candidate must have completed a CCAPP Accredited Pharmacy Technician Certificate or The program prescribed by the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba for candidates who successfully complete a non-CCAPP Accredited Pharmacy Technician Certificate.
- Listing as a Pharmacy technician with the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) is required; candidates not listed with CPhM as a technician may be considered if all requirements for listing as outlined by CPhM can be met within 3 months.
- The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist must have ability to pass and maintain Regional Pharmacy Program Pharmacy Technician competency assessments.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is essential.
- Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential.
- The successful candidate must be fluent in the English language.
- Demonstrated competency in pharmaceutical calculations is required.
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
- The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist must have flexibility and independence in planning work to meet demanding schedules.
- Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with other individuals is required.
- The successful candidate must support the Philosophy/Mission/Goals and Objectives of the Regional Pharmacy Program and the sites it services.
- Maintaining confidentiality in all hospital/patient/resident related matters is essential.
