In this role, you will:

  • Directly support the Head of Design and Systems Engineering in the management and execution of engineering-specific work, including resources and support enablers, across a variety of work environments.
  • Provide leadership and oversight of a large, multi-discipline team of engineers and technologists tasked to execute a variety of engineering and design tasks on complex systems.
  • Maintain Babcock Canada's compliance with legal requirements in respect of the practice of Professional Engineering.
  • Bring your experience to enhance a delivery focused culture through targeted support, coaching, mentorship, and development of departmental staff.
  • Be responsive to Program and Project Managers for dynamic program delivery requirements across multiple departments.
  • Identify risk treatments and opportunities for the improvement of Design and Systems Engineering Department operations and lead improvement initiatives to meet customer, department and company objectives.
  • Establish metrics and key indicators to monitor and control Design and Systems Engineering Department operations.
  • Lead technical reviews as warranted and directed.
  • Be responsible for the Health and Safety of all direct reports.

The ideal candidate brings:

  • A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, or a completed apprenticeship in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Licensed to practice in Canada as a Professional Engineer or able to complete such registration within 12 months.
  • Extensive experience (12+ years) in a high-integrity engineering environment.
  • A Master's degree in engineering from a recognized institution is desirable.
  • Proven leadership skills and experience (5+ years) managing technical teams is highly desirable.
  • Significant experience (5+ years) in submarine engineering, sustainment, or construction.
  • Significant experience (5+ years) reviewing technical documents.
  • You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance.
