Position Overview

Recognized as the internal and external expert in actuarial modelling, pricing models, actuarial pricing audits and RGA new business pricing analytics. The incumbent will develop, guide and support all Local and Regional Pricing Actuaries as they model reinsurance transactions for pricing, valuation or business planning and act as the main contact for any modeling or modeling software related issues or questions. The incumbent will also work with the Pricing Standards Group, IT and Global Audit to ensure documented modeling and pricing guidelines are followed, that software and hardware tools used in the modeling process reflect enterprise data and IT strategies and requirements also manage the relationship with the software vendor.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the Actuarial Modeling function within Corporate Pricing as RGA's Center of Excellence for pricing support by:
    • Developing and leading the pricing support team and demonstrating its subject matter expertise in the design, maintenance, execution and use of actuarial models;
    • Supporting all pricing units in their effort to acquire new or renewal business;
    • Developing, implementing and communicating modeling standards and modeling best practices;
    • Developing and/or reviewing models to ensure pricing units have appropriate pricing tools to price all new business and manage open treaties;
    • Reviewing models used in large or unusual transactions;
    • Conduct needs analysis, then develop and produce training programs on the pricing modeling tools and the RGA pricing methodologies to ensure competent execution of quotation processes;
    • Providing expert advice to Regional and Local Pricing Actuaries in respect of standards and best practices; and
    • Progressively seeking to improve expertise.
  • Be the Business Owner of the AXIS modeling software suite of tools. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Steward the Pricing Software Strategy including updates and execution;
    • Regularly review business requirements and all change orders submitted to Moody's Analytics;
    • Represent the business requirements in contract negotiations;
    • Set priorities for new features in consultation with business and IT stakeholders;
    • Communicate regularly with Moody's Analytics to discuss priorities and to ensure development and roll-out plans are appropriately aligned to support RGA's strategy and business requirements;
    • Act as the senior business approver for new licenses, inclusions in security groups, etc.; and
    • Update the design of the security program for EnterpriseLink, GridLink and GLaaS as needed to satisfy internal/external requirements (e.g. PTAQ, SOX).
  • Manage the pricing audit process with Global Audit Services to ensure that the various pricing risks are being accurately reflected and appropriately quantified in the pricing process as well as ensuring compliance with the RGA pricing and modeling standards and best practices while supervising the Director, Actuarial Modeling who will act as the AXIS SME for Global Audit Services.
  • Develop and document any new processes as requested by the GRS Management Team
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance
  • Perform other duties as requested



Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Sciences, Statistics or related field,
  • Fellowship, Society of Actuaries (FSA) or equivalent designation/experience,
  • 10 years of experience in life and/or health and/or annuity insurance and/or reinsurance:
  • 5+ years of experience in life and/or health and/or annuity pricing, and
  • 5+ years of experience with at least six modules of AXIS, EnterpriseLink and GridLink,
  • Experience with key financial reporting and accounting frameworks (particularly, U.S. GAAP),
  • Experience with economic and other capital models (RBC, LICAT, Solvency II, rating agencies such as S&P, etc.), and
  • 5 years of experience with software training.


Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent knowledge of AXIS.
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of actuarial systems, including MS Office, databases and actuarial projection tools.
  • Expert understanding of design, risks and critical assumptions relating to a broad array of life, annuity and other products and expert ability to model reinsurance of these products.
  • Expert ability to manage multiple projects and/or teams simultaneously, including the ability to delegate key areas of responsibility while managing through others to accomplish goals.
  • Expert project management skills. Demonstrates ability to evaluate project objectives and scope feasibility, gain understanding, schedule resources, and manage budget to plan.
  • Expert technical skills with software such as spreadsheet, actuarial and database applications as well as with hardware such as workstations, networks and servers.
  • Expert actuarial technical skills and an ability to detect and explain sources of variation from expectations in terms of key drivers.
  • Expert ability to translate business needs and problems into viable/accepted modelling solutions.
  • Expert level of skills in customer relationship management and change management.
  • Expert ability to liaise across a wide variety of geographies and cultures with individuals who have diverse backgrounds in operational, functional, and technical disciplines.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received.
  • Expert level of investigative, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong people management skills, demonstrating an ability to lead, mentor, influence and develop associates.
  • Ability to manage and influence associates who are difficult or resistant to leadership or change.
  • Expert ability to make timely and effective decisions.

  • Ability to travel internationally on an occasional basis.
