Mangrove Lithium, a Vancouver based company, has developed a breakthrough platform for the most cost-effective production of battery grade lithium hydroxide and carbonate from diverse input streams and assets. Mangrove's modular solution can be scaled to any capacity and co-located with upstream lithium producers, battery recyclers, or battery manufacturers. The company has attracted funding from Bill Gates' Breakthrough Energy Ventures, BDC Capital and BMW I Ventures. The Company has a highly experienced leadership team with a track record of successfully commercializing and deploying industrial technologies and is working towards the deployment of a first-of-a-kind commercial plant.

Position

Mangrove is seeking an exceptional individual to play a key role in their multidisciplinary engineering team reporting to the VP-Engineering & Projects. The Process Engineer will work with the engineering and management team to develop plant designs based on electrochemical processes with Mangrove's electrochemical technology at the core. The Process Engineer will have full exposure to design, development, testing, and deployment of new components and complete systems in Mangrove's plants. The position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, highly motivated team with significant potential for growth and career development in a number of areas. The position also offers the opportunity to address challenging and highly relevant problems within the lithium ion battery space.

This role is considered hybrid office/remote, with physical offices at our new location near Main & Broadway in Vancouver BC.

Responsibilities

  • Develop process simulations, process flow diagrams (PFDs), heat and material balances (H&MBs), piping and instruments diagrams (P&ID's) through FEED and execution phases.
  • Build the Basis of Design for plants, including design standards, site conditions, available utilities, emission and waste streams limitations, and overall performance requirements.
  • Perform and/or participate in process hazard and operability analysis (HAZOP), and review safety and environmental impacts.
  • Work with the commercial team to perform cost benefits analysis and evaluate the capital and operational cost of projects.
  • Participate and support operations through commissioning of plants.
  • Assist with proposal development, marketing, and business development efforts.
  • Manage collaborative relationships with external stakeholders on a project basis.
  • Troubleshooting, problem solving, and support for the engineering and operations teams.
  • Provide direction, training, and assistance to the technical team.

Required Education, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering.
  • The ideal candidate will have 7 or more years of process design and operational experience in spodumene / lithium brine processing or high purity product crystallization.
  • Experience in an engineering firm in process simulations, equipment sizing, FEED studies, cost-benefit analysis or commercialization of new technologies.
  • Professional Engineer designation.
  • Experience in lithium production operations will be considered an asset.
  • Critical thinking, analysis, problem solving and communications skills.
  • Experience through breadth of spectrum from designing, building, to running operating pilot units and commercial scale equipment in the field.
  • Ability to interact with a wide range of scientists, engineers, technicians.
