Job Summary

Under the direction of a Primary Health Care Manager, and as part of an interdisciplinary team, the Social Worker Senior will develop, implement and provide counselling for bereaved adults and children who have experienced a recent death loss. He/She is an experienced clinician and leader in palliative care and provides direct and indirect support to clients within an interdisciplinary context. As a member of the Primary Health Care team, he/she is responsible for ensuring a collaborative and respectful relationship with other employees. As a senior practitioner, acts as a resource for other professionals for bereavement in the community.

Education

  • Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)

Experience

  • Requires a minimum of two years (postgraduate) recent recognized clinical experience with demonstrated leadership ability.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge, skills and abilities in the application of principles of palliation and bereavement.
  • Highly developed oral/written communication skills. Ability to prepare reports in a clear concise and timely manner. Ability to provide public presentation and professional training.
  • Professional maturity and leadership in clinical area with peers, multidisciplinary team, stakeholder groups across the continuum of care.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the dying process and related issues of grief and loss.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of intervention strategies (individual and group) for palliative clients and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, implement and evaluate areas of client difficulty across a wide range of clinical presentation and formulate evidence based intervention.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a self-motivated manner, ability to respond under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, workload management, staff development and skills related to resource coordination.
  • Knowledge and practical application of the Mental Health Services Act and Health Information Protection Act.
  • Excellent consultation and public relation skills with the ability to maintain effective work relationships.
  • Excellent listening, empathy, documentation and record keeping skills.
  • Ability to provide quality counselling services for bereaved clients with respect and sensitivity to individual beliefs, coping mechanisms, goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal competence including effective problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to enter and retrieve data in a computer database system.
  • Experience managing and working with volunteers.

  • Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement. HSAS seniority within the Saskatchewan Health Authority will be considered under the Selection Criteria.
