About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nutrition and Food Services Supervisor to join our team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for the front-line supervision of employees, day-to-day operations, meal service and delivery, and ensuring safe and efficient operations of assigned work areas.

The successful candidate will act as an ambassador and liaison within the integrated model of Nutrition and Food Services, providing guidance and support to employees in the area and remote sites. You will also be responsible for assisting in carrying out administrative and operational functions within designated area(s) and in accordance with our strategic plan.

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in food service or clinical nutrition management, with a minimum of two years' experience in a health care setting and unionized environment. You will have excellent leadership abilities, staff management, and coaching skills, as well as demonstrated judgement, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to patient safety, quality assurance, and continuous improvement. You will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build internal and external collaborative relationships.

About You

We are looking for a candidate who possesses the following qualifications and skills:

  • Completion of a recognized course in Food and Nutrition Management or Nutrition post-secondary degree (preferred)
  • Journeyman Cook Certification is an asset
  • Completion of an Advanced Food Safety Certification and HACCP Training
  • Experience in food service or clinical nutrition management or leadership and operations required, minimum of two (2) years' preferred (recent relevant experience within the last 5 years)
  • Experience preferred in a health care setting and unionized environment
  • Knowledge of and experience in customer-focused food service operations
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities/staff management/coaching in a unionized environment; Hire, Develop & Retain Solid Performers
  • Demonstrated judgement, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated accountability (fiscal, quality improvement, food safety, effective use of food resources, policy implementation/create supportive environments for healthy eating, marketing)
  • People-focused; demonstrated ability to build internal and external collaborative relationships; Understanding and Responding to Stakeholder Needs & Values Relationship with our Stakeholders.
  • Provide Customer-Focused Service Supporting Person-Centered Care; Deliver Customer-Focused Quality Service

  • Ability to work outside a set schedule/beyond normal working hours as required
  • Travel to other sites or throughout the province is required. Valid Nova Scotia driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required
