Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Health Care Worker II to join our team in Burnaby, B.C. as a Casual Inpatient Unit member. This role involves providing day-to-day care to patients, participating in group activities, and maintaining a safe environment.

Responsibilities
  1. Attend to the daily care of patients by supervising and assisting with meals, escorting patients to dining rooms, and assisting with personal hygiene.
  2. Perform routine nursing procedures such as weighing patients, taking temperatures, pulse, respiration, blood pressures, and measuring intake and output; record data on flow sheets.
  3. Observe and report changes in patients' condition or behavior, record on patients' clinical records as directed, and fill out forms regarding patients' behavior as required.
  4. Assist with admission and discharge procedures, accompany and assist lab technicians with medical procedures, and collect stool and urine samples.
  5. Participate in rehabilitation, remotivation, and self-care programs by being aware of patients' nursing care plans and treatment goals, modeling appropriate behavior, and teaching simple social skills.
  6. Assist in maintaining a safe environment by being aware of patients on special or constant attention status and monitoring them as required.
  7. Assist with hospital and grounds searches for absent without leave (AWOL) patients, promote order by controlling disturbances, and assist in restraining out-of-control patients.
  8. Assist in cleaning up broken glass, furniture, etc., tidy unit kitchen, and make patients' coffee.
  9. Assist patients in maintaining a tidy environment and obtain, displace, and/or carry various items under the direction of the Coordinator.
Qualifications

Grade twelve (12) and a Resident Care Aide certificate plus two (2) years' recent, related experience in a group home and/or other related areas where clients with psychiatric conditions may reside. Valid Class V BC Drivers' Licence and Basic First Aid certificate.

Ability to communicate effectively, deal effectively with others, organize work, and operate related equipment. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
