**Registered Nurse (RN) / Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) Job Description**

A Registered Nurse (RN) / Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) is required to provide direct patient care and collaborate with other healthcare professionals in a residential treatment setting.

**Job Responsibilities:**

* Maintain accurate and complete client records by collecting and documenting relevant information.
* Develop and implement individualized care plans for female clients, in collaboration with the healthcare team.
* Provide direct patient care, including assessing client health status, observing and evaluating client progress, and managing medication as required.
* Teach clients and their families about health-related topics, using effective communication and teaching methods.
* Identify own learning needs and engage in activities to meet those needs.
* Participate in the orientation and continuing education of staff and students.

**Requirements:**

* Current practicing registration as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse or as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
* Graduation from a recognized diploma program in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing.
* One (1) year of recent, related nursing experience in substance use and mental health care setting.

**Skills and Knowledge:**

* CPR Training – Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) – Level 1.
* Knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of substance dependence, behavioral, social emotional and mental health/psychiatric problems in women.
* Knowledge of developmental theory.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
* Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to women with substance dependence and their families.
* Demonstrated ability to participate as a member of an interdisciplinary care team, work independently, and function as a nursing resource.
* Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
