Organization Description:MOA has worldwide collections which are well known for their coverage of Canadian First Nations, Arctic, Asian, European, and Pacific arts and cultures. The Museum is unique not only because of its physical setting but because it has created unusually close relationships with cultural communities in British Columbia and around the world through experimental and collaborative research methods and exhibitions. Part of MOA’s originality comes from it being a public, research and teaching museum. The cutting-edge scholarship of the Museum makes possible a range of exhibitions and events that cut across traditional disciplinary divisions to provoke creative engagement and dialogue.
Position Overview:The Museum Facility Manager is responsible for the coordination and smooth operation of all aspects of MOA's buildings and operations. This includes overseeing MOA's Haida Houses and outdoor landscape maintenance, ensuring all mechanical systems are maintained, and that the building's appearance reflects the care and respect MOA values to present world arts and cultures. The Facility Manager will oversee the building maintenance budget, identify, scope, plan, and budget for all building services and planned maintenance, and coordinate museum operations with various departments.
Responsibilities:- Oversee, with conservation staff, all aspects of museum operations in terms of HVAC and BMS systems, gallery spaces, collections storage and labs, office areas, and public spaces.
- Identify, scope, plan, and budget for all building services and planned maintenance.
- Liaise with MOA staff and University service providers to implement improvements to building operations.
- Manage and maintain the MOA Building Maintenance budget.
- Coordinate, schedule, and manage the activities of trades, technicians, and contractors involved in maintenance and repairs.
- Work within MOA to ensure needs and projects are coordinated with daily operations and security protocols.
- Provide management of capital projects and serve as liaison with relevant staff and contractors.
- Ensure MOA's gallery and case lighting is fully functioning.
- Work closely with exhibit design staff to determine demands of new exhibits.
- Responsible for visitor experience and appropriate signage at MOA.
- Participate in MOA's emergency and disaster response planning.
- Assist with installations of travelling and in-house exhibitions as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Journey person certification in an appropriate trade. Minimum of three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in construction/facilities management or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Project management training, forklift certification, and previous work in a similar role, preferably in a museum or gallery.
